Look no further, we have it all! From Ofsted reports, school catchment areas,
league tables and school comparisons to in-depth parent reviews.
We really do have it all, you'll have no need to look elsewhere.
With our easy to use, intuitive map you can locate and browse any area at different zoom levels and see at a glance where schools are located.
Schools have different icons depending upon the age range of pupils. So, you can see immediately if a school is nursery, primary or secondary.
School icons are coloured according to their latest inspection rating. So, it is obvious which schools are outstanding, good, requires improvement or inadequate. Estyn ratings are used for Welsh schools.
Hovering over a school shows its name and a catchment area indicator, which provides a guide as to where you might need to live to get into the school (England only).
We show detailed application and offer data for all schools in England (covering 2014-2018). Even including what preference the school was given on the Common Application Form (CAF).
We use this data to indicate if a school is oversubscribed or not; where we consider a school to be oversubscribed if not all children who put it as their first choice school were offered a place.
Take this school as an example, there were 261 applications in 2018 and 150 offers, so that would appear at first glance that the school is oversubscribed. But look closer and you’ll see that everyone who put it as their first choice got an offer. So, it’s not oversubscribed at all. The other applications are from pupils who were offered schools that they put as a higher preference.
We are a proud partner of Zoopla and with the click of a switch you can easily add properties to the map which are sourced live from Zoopla's database. Hovering over a property shows its address and price.
Different property icons allow you to tell at a glance if there is one or more property for sale or rent in a particular location.
You can easily filter which properties are displayed.
You can even show only properties that have had price changes in a certain period, e.g. the last week. Something you can't even do directly on the Zoopla site.
Using our school and property filters, you can easily select which schools and properties are displayed on the map, to help narrow down your search.
You can filter by the age range and gender of pupils.
You can filter schools by their Ofsted rating and also by the exam performance of the pupils relative to other schools on the map; e.g. show only the top 5 performing schools in the visible area.
You can also filter schools based on other criteria such as their religion, whether they are primary schools, secondary schools, grammar schools, special schools etc. Independent schools can be switched on or off depending upon whether these are of interest to you.
Clicking on a school allows you to view a host of information; including details of all its inspections, exam results, parent's opinions, application and offer details, whether it is oversubscribed or not and lots more.
A useful summary tab shows key information about each school, such as the number of pupils, gender, pupils per teacher, % free school meals, % English not first language etc. Along with at-a-glance-indicators which show the performance of the school based on the exams taken by its pupils and the inspections it has received.
We show the headline items from each school's latest Ofsted (or Estyn) report including its summary findings, so you don't have to open and read the individual reports for each school.
Our Reviews tab contains comprehensive parential opinion taken directly from the official source of parent's opinions: Ofsted Parent View, which is used by Ofsted when making decisions about which schools to inspect and when.Ofsted Parent View gives parents the chance to tell Ofsted what they think about their child’s school, from the quality of teaching to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. Specifically parents are asked to rate answers to the following questions:
1. My child is happy at this school
2. My child feels safe at this school
3. My child makes good progress at this school
4. My child is well looked after at this school
5. My child is taught well at this school
6. My child receives appropriate homework for their age
7. This school makes sure its pupils are well behaved
8. This school deals effectively with bullying
9. This school is well led and managed
10. This school responds well to any concerns I raise
11. I receive valuable information from the school about my child’s progress
12. Would you recommend this school to another parent?
The exam results tabs show the very latest results, including new Department of Education progress measures - designed to allow the comparison of pupil's progress and attainment across different schools. Beware other school guide sites that make no reference to the year their results are for; they are often years out of date and/or discontinued measures, e.g. GCSE grades are now numbers not letters.
Included are all the very latest headline exam results for schools at Key Stage 2 (Primary), Key Stage 4 (GCSE) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level). We also include direct links to the Department of Education website so you can drill down further into these results.
The previous year's results are also displayed so you can make a year-on-year comparison.
As well as over 30,000 schools we are now showing over 28,000 nurseries and childcare providers in England.
We have parsed the latest Ofsted reports, so you can see the highlights at a glance. Including the providers full inspection history.
For nursery schools we also show Parent's Opinions from Ofsted Parent View; the official source of parent's opinion.
We show all childcare providers that are registered with Ofsted and not on domestic premises.
Discover what students do after leaving each school with our detailed leaver statistics, sourced from the Department of Education.
After their GCSEs, find out if pupils remain in education, and if so where, or whether they move on to employment or perhaps an apprenticeship.
After their A-Levels, discover how many pupils remain in education or move on to employment. For those that continue on to higher education, see how many attend top universities such as the Russell Group or Oxbridge.
Create a league table of local schools using the schools-in-view slide out.
You can sort schools by a range of items; such as name, inspection rating, Key Stage 2 performance, GCSE performance, A-Level performance, value added (progress) scores for KS2, GCSE and A-Level, number of pupils per teacher and even school fees for Independent schools.
Zoom in and out or scroll around to change the schools included in the school league table.
Your shortlisted schools are highlighted with a heart.
Add schools and properties to your shortlists. You can then choose to view only your shortlisted items on the map and even compare schools and properties side by side.
Compare your shortlisted schools and properties side by side.
Save your shortlists or share them with friends using our simple URLS.
You can find out a host of information about properties for sale or rent. The summary tab shows key information about each property; including the price, pictures and key features.
You can easily view the floorplan of each property.
View price changes of each property, a particularly useful feature for those looking to grab a bargain.
Request a viewing or contact the agent directly from our pop-up window with no need to leave the site.
Information specific to Independent schools is readily available.
Independent schools are often inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. We include links to all ISI reports, as well as inspections from all the other main inspection bodies. We also show highlights from ISI inspections.
Options for boarding are shown on the summary tab.
School fees can also be found on the summary tab.
A highly requested feature has always been to show public transport links.
Map markers indicate the location of many thousands of railway stations and other forms of public transport; including underground stations, tram stops, metro and light railway stations. Our data covers the whole of Great Britain.
Plan a journey from a marker to anywhere else you like, or view the station's network map by clicking the link in the popup.
Often when researching school catchments people need to know how far they are ‘as the crow flies’ from a school. Our distance calculator tool makes such a measurement a doddle.
Simply right click on the map (or on a touch device press and hold) and a pin will appear to mark your location, you can drag the pin around or click elsewhere on the map to move it. Place this pin where you live (or intend to live) then if you hover over a school or station it will measure the distance between the pin and the destination.
It will also draw a dotted circle around the pin so you can easily see which other schools are within the same distance.
It's not always possible to get online, our printable schools report allows you to print out the details of all your shortlisted schools.
The schools report shows each school on its own page and includes all the key information that can be seen on the schools map. It also shows a map, highlighting where the school is located.
Where possible we've added handy links that allow easy navigation to external sites that provide useful information about the area in view.
Links to the police crime site, allow you to see any recent crimes in the area you are considering.
Links to county council websites allow applications to be made for school places. You can also use these to find out futher information regarding school admissions
Links to socio-economic information allow you to find out a little bit more about an area.
To streamline our user support, we have a fully featured helpdesk. You can use this to provide feedback, make suggestions, report bugs or for any other questions you might have.
You can access the helpdesk via your profile page, where you will find a Helpdesk menu option. We aim to answer all tickets within a few hours, however outside of Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm, this may take a little longer.
We continually add new innovative features to help you make the most informed decisions possible.
A great tool for parents
We have been using Locrating for nearly 10 years to select our primary school and now secondary school. It is an invaluable tool especially if you are moving to a new area and do not know the local schools or which streets to live in. You can easily see where the best schools are that fit your search criteria as well as ideal areas to live in order to fall into the most recent catchment area. We would highly recommend this site to parents who need help choosing a school and/or area to live.

This is a great website!
This is a great website! We used Locrating to search for secondary schools for our son. Having the ability to view past exam results and the oversubscribed data is incredibly useful. We also ventured further afield than we may otherwise have explored and considered a house move which may tie in with the perfect school. Keep up the good work!
Perfect for school searching and also…

We are a family coming from abroad
We are a family coming from abroad, looking for the best school for our child. Locrating is the best web site that we have found to know all the information needed to find the best school. We recommend it 100%

Great help if you are moving house or chosing schools, especially good if you are doing both
Truly helps to choose a school
This service helps to narrow down the schools choice, showing the most necessary criteria in a very friendly way. Thank you for a great job.
A very helpful website to help young parents navigate their way through all the complexity of schools and nurseries!
Very useful for school planning
Superb site - pin your location to find which schools you are in the catchment for and details on ofsted rating, parent opinions and more. Even find properties for rent / sale in the catchments of interest.
Great site for anyone looking at new schools.
Overall a great site for anyone looking for the right school. The map could be easier to use on mobile phones, and it would be nice to see the ratio of student applications per school place on the school panel, important when moving school mid year. Also Rightmove would perhaps be a better partner for property than Zoopla as it has more houses listed and better school catchment details.
A most useful tool coagulating school data. It would help to be able to easily search for a school and it would help to be able to build shortlist of schools filer tonkey data.
Was a bit sceptical, I thought that free services you can find online probably had as much info, but have to Locrating say was well worth the money. Well designed and has really helped in our school search to make more informed decisions.
Indispensable tool for me as I am moving to the UK from Australia and was having a lot of trouble finding a good school. Using locrating in tandem with real estate sites made finding a place to live near good schools much easier.
We have been using locrating since the days when it was free...now they have improved the service with lots of additional features.. Good job :)
Does not get better than this
Its one comprehensive site where you can view of schools as well property. Does not get better than this.
An invaluable research tool
I use Locrating.com almost daily as a resource for my Education Consultancy business and find the tool invaluable. The web team are also extremely responsive to feedback and updates and are therefore able to offer a service that families can really rely on to educate themselves on schooling options in particular areas.
We used it when trying to pick a school for our 4 yr old daughter and I can honestly say I have no idea how we would have managed if it wasn't for Locrating.
The site is great and the only one (as far as we can see) that offers all the information combined in this manner. It's very easy to navigate and configure so you can see the information on the types of schools that you are interested in.
We can't praise it enough. If you care about the standard and quality of school you are about to send your kids to, there is simply no other way to go. Without this you either have to look up the Ofsted reports yourself or take a risk and rely on other people's opinions.
An invaluable tool for researching school choices
Locrating has been an invaluable tool for navigating school choices. So much information in one place. It’s great for seeing state & private schools in your area, previous years catchments plus links to Ofsted reports, school websites and more. You can filter those available with lots of useful options like boys/girls/co-ed, state/private, religion or Ofsted rating etc.
Also if you’re thinking of relocating for a particular school or just to a new area, you can then tick a box to show properties for sale or to rent on the map alongside the schools.
I had a couple of technical glitches and was skeptical about using email for support, however I couldn’t have been more wrong-Lewis was extremely helpful and quick to respond. My glitches were fixed very fast.
This website is genius!
If you're looking to move for schools or just research schools in a given area Locrating is invaluable. You can show schools on a map with catchment areas, alongside properties to rent or buy and use all of the usual search criteria for both including school results and rankings. I've used it now for secondary school research and again to plan a 6th form move. Finding Locrating has saved me loads of time and hassle and really taken the legwork out of the research. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Absolutely MUST if you are moving…
Absolutely MUST if you are moving houses, or selecting area to leave with a kids.
great website that also shows you available properties in schools' catchment areas
this is a great website that does what it says. also very handy when you are looking to buy. We have a 2 year old daughter and are currently looking for properties near a particular primary school. the map can include zoopla listings and so you can easily look at the properties available in the catchment area.
Great web site

Locrating was amazing. It saved me hours and hours of research. All the facts at my fingertips. I was able to scroll around and bring up the info I was interested in on all the schools in my area. It was a useful tool when thinking of areas we might move to as well. So much information. An incredibly useful website.
Useful when researching an area
Helpful and useful when researching an area. Has opened our eyes to some new options we have in our borough. Also, a necessity when looking for that next place where we might buy a house. Highly recommended!

Although they're charging now it doesn't take away from the fact that it's a useful website to view all types of schools in your area. The comparison function and the property prices overlay on the map is very useful!

Locrating was a fantastic tool which helped us filter down the many choices of schools we were presented with. We just moved to the UK from overseas and the consolidated console with information about nearly every school as well as real estate was a great help.
One of the best tools available
One of the best tools available in the market if you are planning to buy a property and are concerned about the schools in the area! User friendly and smooth, i think its good value for money.
This is such a great website
This is such a great website. It is so easy to see all the schools using the map and quickly read all of the relevant information about the schools. I like being able to order the schools in a specific area.
